Preparing your quilt for the longarm quilting process:
Do not baste your quilt. Leave top and backing separated.
Press your quilt top and backing well, before delivery., Folds and wrinkles in your material may not fall out
during the quilting process. Backing should be pressed with seams pressed open.
Top and bottom edges of backing should be squared properly to allow even rolling during quilting.
Identify the head of quilt top and head of back with a safety pin. Also if design orientation is important in the
borders, or if it is critical that the backing must be centered make a note of it on the order form.
The quilt backing and batting must be a minimum of 8 inches wider and 8 inches longer than quilt top. (after
straightening!)
The quilt top should be free of embellishments, such as buttons, charms, pins, etc. You may do those after
the quilt is quilted.
Check quilt top for seam breaks. Old quilts and hand stitched quilts are prone to seam breaks. These can
cause tearing of the quilt top and sometimes the back.
If you have seams at the edges of your top, stay stitch with a 1/8th inch seam to keep them from spreading
open during the quilting process
The quilt top and backing should be clipped of loose threads, both front and back.
On lighter fabrics, loose threads on the backside of the top will show through.
It is not always practical to press to the dark fabric. You may want to check for shadowing through light fabrics if
seams are not even.
Your quilt will be quilted in the condition it is received. Take the time to square, measur,e and press! If your
borders are too small and pull the quilt in I can only pull from the quilt center so far. If they are too long, and
have flares and ripples, they’ll need tucks to bring them back into square. The old saying “it will quilt out“ is
an old wives tale!
Your quilt will be as free of pleats and puckers as the piecing will allow.
I have allergies to smoke and scents. Please, if your quilt top or fabrics have been in a smoking, or scented
environment, please take the time to “air “ the quilt top to release the scents before bringing or mailing it to be
quilted. I appreciate your efforts to help me with this problem.
